Dozens of different massages can be found in Bali; these islands are at the convergence of India, Indonesia and South Asia with China. The art of Balinese massage is a blend of Asian massage traditions, incorporating Indian, Indonesian, and Ayurvedic medicine on one hand, and Chinese TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) on the other. This diversity is what makes Balinese massage so rich and varied, despite the country's small size. These massages are very popular because of their rich and complex sequences and maneuvers, made up of gliding pressures, smoothing, stretching and rolling with the fists, but also because of the promise of escape that emanates from them. There are two main categories of maneuvers in Balinese techniques; the tonic and deep maneuvers called "Urut" and the softer and lighter maneuvers called "Pujat". Balinese massages are technical and require some training in order to acquire precise movements and pressures adapted to each part of the body being massaged. The techniques are designed to relax the body so that the mind can be completely free. A harmonious blend of energizing massages and gentle body sculpting for a unique moment of relaxation and well-being. In Bali, massages are also part of a certain ritual and are spiritual because they begin with a prayer. Essential oils are widely used in Balinese massages, such as jasmine, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, lemongrass, lotus and frangipani are among the most popular with practitioners. THE SINGARAJA MASSAGE This technique, known to be relaxing and energizing, is practiced on a table. The originality of this massage lies in the fact that the person being massaged is massaged from head to toe with an alternation of gentle and powerful maneuvers, while remaining extremely fluid. Similar to and different from Aromatic Thai massage (traditional Thai oil massage), Singaraja massage stimulates many Sen energy lines and brings a great sense of well-being. Singaraja massage requires a great deal of dexterity and strength in the fingers of the practitioner, particularly in performing maneuvers such as the finger dance. Maneuvers such as the pagoda allow the body parts to be harmonized one by one and the body and mind to be unified. In Bali, client care remains respectful of tradition. This massage generally begins with a foot bath using frangipani flowers to purify the body and relieve foot pain. A basin filled with water and frangipani flowers is also placed under the table at the level of the massaged person's face, so that they can inhale a sweet floral scent during the session. This massage takes 90 minutes, however it is perfectly possible to reduce the number of passes of each maneuver in order to offer an express version of 60 minutes.
